David Cooper - Computer Studies for A Level
New in August 2003 :
This very detailed and comprehensive 325 page A4-sized Computing course textbook is designed for all exam boards including OCR. It covers key computing concepts at both AS and A2 levels and includes many useful background reading topics. It assumes no knowledge at the start of the course and builds up pupils' knowledge, skills and confidence in stages. Apart from the detailed notes on topics that pupils will meet in their exams, pupils are also encouraged in the textbook to read widely and develop self-support and self-reliance skills through Internet links, background reading and activities.
We'd welcome feedback from users of this new book.

Pat Heathcote - A Level Computing -
If you already have this book, you probably either love it or hate it. In my view it's the best introduction to the A level course. It's clearly written with lots of good practice questions. Unfortunately it isn't written specifically for the OCR course, so topics are not in the right order, and you'll need to pick out the bits which are relevant. If you're looking for a high grade at A2, you'll need another book as well.

Keylink Computers - TOM resource kit for ICT and Computing
At the heart of this package is the TOM Computer simulator (TOM stands for "Thoroughly Obedient Moron"!). This is a great way to learn about assembly language programming without some of the difficulties involved in the real thing. The package also includes other interactive tools, multimedia presentations and teaching materials. Further details on the Keylink Computers web site.

Blackford and Leadbetter - OCR AS Level Computing
This is the essential AS text, because it contains exactly what you need for the AS course. You'll want to refer to other materials as well, but this is the best guide to what needs to be covered and in what depth. The text is published on a CD, and the price allows the text to be made available on a school network. Practice questions and test papers are included. (Available from B & L Publishing, Warren Bank, 8 The Wheatlands, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, WV16 5BD. email : rblackford@btopenworld.com)

This is the same book as the Glossary of Computing Terms, but reduced in size by about a half. recommended for AS, but for A2 you'd probably want the full version.
