David Cooper - Computer Studies for A Level
New in August 2003 :
This very detailed and comprehensive 325 page A4-sized Computing course textbook is designed for all exam boards including OCR. It covers key computing concepts at both AS and A2 levels and includes many useful background reading topics. It assumes no knowledge at the start of the course and builds up pupils' knowledge, skills and confidence in stages. Apart from the detailed notes on topics that pupils will meet in their exams, pupils are also encouraged in the textbook to read widely and develop self-support and self-reliance skills through Internet links, background reading and activities.
We'd welcome feedback from users of this new book.

Ray Bradley - New Understanding Computer Science for A Level
Overall this is probably the best A level Computer Science text book. It covers all the material for 2509 in depth. It also covers much of 2511 although you'll have to look around for it. I don't recommend it at the start of the AS year, but it's well worth having at A2, particularly if you're thinking of reading Computing at University. Recommended by OCR for 2509 and 2511.

Blackford and Leadbetter - OCR A2 Level Computing
The A2 course follows the same format as the AS course. It's longer because there's more material to get through. Again the text is an essential guide to what needs to be covered and in what depth, particularly as the OCR specification is very different from the other boards at A2. (Purchase details as AS. Cost £80, or £70 if you also purchase the AS text).

British Computer Society - A Glossary of Computing Terms
Highly recommended by OCR. It's more than just a glossary - the explanations are very readable.
