If you're planning to do your project using a programming language,
you'll need a book which helps you understand how to go beyond the
basics, and which helps you to solve problems when they crop up
(which they're sure to!). There are plenty of web sites which provide
language tutorials (see the links pages for some ideas), but you'll
probably want to have a good book too. Here are some suggestions.

Mastering
Delphi 6
This is the latest version of an excellent guide to programming
in Delphi. If you've already done some Pascal and you want to
use Delphi for your project, this book will be a great help
to you. There are lots of useful example programs all of which
are on the CD which comes with the book. |

Beginning
Access 2000 VBA
If you're doing you're project in Access and you want to go
beyond the basics, this is a great book to have. |

Beginning
Access 97 VBA Programming
Definitely not a book for beginners, despite the friendly sounding
title. This book is more advanced than the one above. |

Introduction
to SQL (3rd Edition)
This book has been around for a while and is an old favourite
of mine. SQL is the language of relational databases. It's used
by Access, Oracle, MySQL, Informix, DB2 and many others. This
book is a marvellously clear introduction to SQL. It isn't written
for any particular database, but serves as is a good general
introduction which will give you an understanding of what is
going on behind the scenes in Access and other databases. An
understanding of SQL is also invaluable for learning database
design. |
