Welcome to the site. Here's some information about the aims of
this site and why I set it up.
My name's Tim Ault and I'm Head of ICT at d'Overbroeck's College
in Oxford. I've taught A Level Computing for about 7 years (previously
at Weald College in North London and at the Oxford College of Further
Education.)
I've taught the OCR A Level for the last 5 years. I think it's
a good course. In particular I like the AS Structured Tasks which
are not available from other boards.
When I've attended inset meetings run by the board, I've been struck
by the variety of backgrounds of the people teaching the A Level.
Some people have worked in IT in Industry. Others have moved into
teaching Computing from Maths and other subjects. My impression
has been that for many teachers, it's quite a challenge to cover
the A level computing syllabus, particularly the content of module
2509. I'm also aware that schools find it difficult to recruit staff
to teach A level Computing.
I decided to set up this site for a number of reasons :
If you're teaching the OCR A Level, do visit the site from time
to time to find out what's new. If you have a question about the
course, do post something on the discussion board. If you have developed
some teaching resources which you would like to make available to
others, do get it touch. If you have an idea for something you would
like to see on this site, please let me know.
Finally, please spread the word that this site exists. If you run
a related web site and could add a link, I would very much appreciate
it. Code for a quick link is here.
This site has been set up with the knowledge and encouragement
of Merrick Smith at the OCR board. Merrick is the OCR Subject Officer
for ICT and can be contacted on smith.mm@ucles.org.uk
